China’s cell phone wholesales export 2009 increases in volume

Mobile phone manufacturers in China exported last year gained 3 per cent to 510 millions units but total export voulme fell 4.1 per cent to US$34.46 billion year on year.

According to the latest statistics from the General Administration of Customs reported by China Knowledge, the average export value was US$67.6 per unit, 6.9 per cent less than in the previous year.

The five companies that exported the most cell phones last year are all foreign-funded enterprises. The five firms’ combined export volume accounted for 48.3 per cent of the total, whereas in 2008 they accounted for 42.6 per cent of the total.

Dubai’s credit crisis may have had an impact on the mainland’s cell phone exports this year as many of the mainland’s cell phones are re-exported from Dubai to emerging regions such as Africa and central Asia.
